The Great Outdoors

We had a fabulous time on our camping trip to Ray Roberts State Park this past weekend. We camped with two other families and it was probably the one of the best camping trips we've ever been on. The weather was pretty much ideal, we had a great campsite, we had no major injuries (Camden did get a nasty cut on his knee, but he impressed everyone with how brave he was), and the kids all got along wonderfully (the adults did too!). We crammed a lot of fun into two days, so I have a lot pictures to share:

Our campsite was just off the lake; here's Camden taking the path back to our site from the water:

There's a nice playground by the swimming area; we spent some time there Saturday morning:

It was warm enough Saturday afternoon for the kids to swim in the lake. We weren't too far from civilization and one of the guys made a run to Sonic for 1/2 price drinks during "happy hour".

Sunday morning the kids got to "fish". There was no hook or bait on their lines, but they had fun casting anyway.
As usual when we're outdoors, Kenna made several bug friends. She had fun catching, keeping for awhile, and then releasing several different bugs. We actually came home with a frog that she has in a cage in her room. As of yet, she hasn't caught anything for him to eat, so he may not last long!

The science on the trip wasn't limited to studying bugs. After burning a few holes in a leaf with the sun and a magnifying glass, Colby tried to toast a marshmallow - that didn't work as well as the leaf.

The park has some great paved biking/walking trails through the trees:

We enjoyed watching two beautiful sunsets by the water, right down from our campsite. (The people in the picture weren't from our group; they just happened to be between us and the sunset.)

All in all, it was a great weekend spent with great friends!
