A New Song

Last week I was cleaning out some papers and found the following that Camden wrote during church some time in the past few months. Some of you may remember that Camden wrote some lyrics a couple of years ago that our music minister put to music. You can click here to read that post. Anyways, Camden has continued to write some lyrics off and on; some are better than others, but all are precious (at least to me!).
So, here's the latest from Camden:

Oh God you're so kind to me, so good to me.

Without you nothing would be here.

Oh God you're strong, so powerful, so mighty.

You're the Lord of all the earth.

Oh Lord, oh God,

Oh your mighty strength rules over all the earth.

Oh Lord.

Snow Day - Times Four!!

Wow - the kids were off school FOUR days last week because of ice and snow - IN TEXAS! We're used to maybe having one or two days a year off for bad weather, but four? Don't know if that's ever happened before.

I'll admit that I wasn't too thrilled about it at first. With the power out for a couple of hours one morning and then off and on several more times that day, temperatures too cold to get out and enjoy playing in the snow, the kids going out anyway and then coming back in after just a few minutes dropping wet clothes everywhere, same kids constantly asking for food...well you get the picture; all this made for a very grumpy momma bear. I just wanted to go to my room and hibernate until it was all over. But, somewhere along the way my attitude changed and I began to embrace the circumstances. In the end, we enjoyed a lot of fun and family time. And the snow really was beautiful!

The kids spent a lot of time playing with the neighbors.

Even Dixie got out and romped in the snow:

This being Texas, we have no real sleds, so the kids used whatever they could find, from pool inflatables (which didn't last long, getting puntcured on the ice) to pieces of cardboard and plastic.

In between the forays into the winter wonderland, we spent time staying warm inside reading in front of the fire, drinking hot chocolate, baking, eating, watching movies and playing lots of games.

Fun times with our neighbors:

Even with all the fun, I was certainly glad when things started thawing out and having the kids back at school this week has been great! Now, we've got 2-6 inches of snow in the forecast for tomorrow...not sure I'm ready for another round!

Dallas!

Last weekend, Robert and I got to spend a little time in Dallas. We found a great deal on a room at The Adolphus Hotel, and it was good to get away for a night. (Thanks to Nana and Papa for keeping the kids!)

We spent Friday afternoon at the Dallas World Aquarium. This octopus was probably the most facinating of the aquatic exhibits. He spent most of his time right up against the glass, showing off his suckers.

There are a lot of non-aquatic animals at the "aquarium", and the monkeys were my favorite.

This sloth was right out in the open - no cage, just a sign that said "Please don't touch the sloth."

Robert's favorite exhibit was the shark tunnel - lots of different sharks swimming over and around us.

On Saturday morning we walked the "Public ArtWalk Dallas", a self-guided tour of sculptures, architecture, and museums.

I love this next picture. Robert was taking all the pictures, and I decided he needed to be in one. I suggested the placement of his finger, not thinking he would really do it...

Looking Back

Last week I was looking back over some of my old posts and came across this one from one year ago today. When I wrote it, I had recently returned from my first international mission trip and was convicted to make some changes in my life. This prompted me to set some goals for 2010. Since goals don't really mean a lot if we don't check our progress, I decided I should do some self evaluation. So here goes:

Goal #1: Learn Spanish. I piddled around with this goal for a few months and then in the fall decided to "get serious" and we purchased all five levels of Rosetta Stone Spanish. I've made it halfway through Level 1. So, baby steps have been taken on this goal, but I still have a long way to go.

Goal #2: Give generously. We've given a small percentage of our income to support missionaries over the past year, but I still spend way too much on myself. So, more work to do on this one too.

Goal #3: Invest more in the spiritual development of my children. Maybe I've made a little progress on this one, having more "faith conversations" at home, but again, I have a long way to go. I really desire for Christ to be such a central part of my life that talking about Him and the things of God just naturally happens.

Goal #4: Spend more time consistently studying God's word and praying for His life-changing power to transform my life. I think I see a pattern forming here...while I've been a little more consistent in having personal devotional times, I'm nowhere near the consistency I envisioned when I made this goal a year ago.

So, since I haven't "reached" any of my goals, where does that leave me? Do I give up on myself? Of course not. I have to claim the verse in Phillipians...

"...He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." (Phil. 1:6)

I pray that God will continue to work in my life!
