Fifth Grade Camp

Kenna spent Wednesday through Friday at 5th grade camp at Sky Ranch in East Texas. I got to go along as a chaperone and we had a great time.

The girls of Cabin 10:

The kids had a journal to record all they learned in their different classes:

On Thursday night, each cabin presented a skit at the campfire. Our girls had a lot of fun just reading through some ideas that one of the chaperones had brought. In the end, they made up their own skit that was really cute.

One of their classes was "Limnology", which we learned is the study of fresh water. The kids visited a pond and looked for critters there, as well as getting to see and hold some turtles in one of the buildings:

Another one of the classes was "Ranch Life" where they learned about farm animals and organic gardening and had the opportunity to horseback ride. Kenna was pretty nervous being that high up, but still managed to enjoy the ride on "Moe":

Their last class was "Expeditions", which involved a variety of animals such as snakes, spiders, hedgehogs, and ferrets:

The "Expeditions" class also included a nature walk to learn about some of the plant life there. The dogwood trees were beautiful.

I still can't believe Kenna is almost through with 5th grade and will be heading off to middle school next year! One of the things I love about being a "stay at home" mom is the opportunity to do things like going on this trip. A special "thank you" to Lisa, my boss at my part time job. Even in the midst of tax season, she didn't seem mind me taking the time off for this trip, even after I was off last week for spring break. Lisa, you're the best!
