I've been crowned!

Unfortunately, I didn't win a beauty pageant or the "mom of the year" award, but I am one step closer to having my major dental work done. After three visits with the endodontist to complete two root canals, I went back to my general dentist yesterday to have prep work done and impressions taken for my crowns. I came away with two temporary crowns and my permanent ones will be ready in about a month. While the three hour appointment was far from pleasant, my dentist understands my irrational anxiety and made the appointment bearable. I'm so glad it's over!

And I have learned my lesson - I will no longer let six years go by between dental checkups! We don't have dental insurance and I've always made the kids' check-ups more of a priority than my own (could have something to do with my extreme anxiety over visiting the dentist). But, these root canals have cost so much more in money, time, and discomfort than six annual check-ups would have, so I'm committing to seeing my dentist once a year from now on. (I know you're really supposed to go every 6 months, but I just don't see myself doing that, so I'm trying to set a reasonable goal for myself.)

I would include a picture of my new (temporary) crowns, but I just don't see that adding to the quality of anyone's day, so I'll skip that. I'm not sure I could get anyone to take that picture anyway!
